Leaves: In 4's closely pressed, equal in size, oblong- obovate, finely pointed, lustrous dark green; on main shoots about 1/2" long with lateral pair boat shaped almost enclosing the facial pair; aromatic odor when crushed.

Notes: As in the specimen, a handsome tree that needs plenty of space. It is considered an exotic in the Athens area But seems to do well and certainly adds a level of class to its surroundings.

Bark: Highly variable between old and young trees. Young trees have smooth, thin grayish green or scaly. On old bark (above), yellowish brown to cinnamon red, Fibrous, deeply and irregularly furrowed.
