Notes: The Black Cherry becomes oval headed with age, with pendulous branches often supporting large galls. The species is highly valuable commercially and grows well on deep, moist fertile soils (such as this one), but are often found on dry, gravely upland soils. The Black Cherry is very common throughout the eastern United States and grows well in the Athens-Clarke county area.
