Notes: The Willow oak is a signature species of the red oak group. Preferring a well-drained upland site, the Willow oak has a wide range of adaptability. It is considered one of the best oaks in terms of overall form and texture, and is well suited to the Athens-Clarke County area. The Willow oak is well placed along major thoroughfares and large landscape areas such as parks and golf courses.

Bark: Older bark, becoming gray and roughened by Irregular furrows and thick, scaly ridges. This illustration is not the Champion, but more typical of upper stem bark of the white oak species.
