Neighborhood Forest Assessments are uniquely ACC Landscape Management Division initiatives conducted in Athens-Clarke County residential neighborhoods by the ACC Community Forester. The assessments are designed to find out more about the extent, composition, health, and history of the neighborhood trees. The objectives of the assessment are to develop and implement management recommendations for trees on both public and private property to maintain or improve neighborhood character. The Community Tree Council is a participating partner in these activities. Initial focus is on public trees, but to be successful it is important to include as many privately owned trees as possible. This is totally dependent on the willingness of the neighborhood citizens to participate. The validity of the assessment is directly correlated with the degree of private participation. In this sense, neighborhood residents become vital partners in this initiative.
To assist the citizens in understanding the process, tree care workshops on a variety of topics are given in the neighborhood as part of the assessment.
If you want to know the composition, distribution and general health of the trees in your neighborhood, or more specifically the value and condition of the trees in your yard, consider a forest assessment for your neighborhood. To find out more please email us.
